Appointment of New Associate Dean, Apprenticeship Programs

Office of the Vice Chancellor for Instructional Services, Planning and Technology (ISPT)
We are pleased to announce that Stephen Ford has been selected as the new Associate Dean for Apprenticeship Programs in the District Office of Workforce Education and Economic Development under the direction of the Vice Chancellor for Instructional Services, Planning and Technology (ISPT).
Mr. Ford will assume his duties with the San Diego Community College District on June 2, 2008 and brings to his assignment impressive academic background preparation in Marketing Communications, Instructional Design and Technology from Pierce College in Los Angeles, California State University Northridge, and Michigan State University. He has previously worked with the Santa Barbara County Regional Occupational Program and the Santa Barbara Community College District as an instructor, and is currently the California State Manager for the Automotive Youth Education Systems Corporation. While completing his M.A. degree in instructional design and educational technology at Michigan State University, Stephen worked for the General Motors Company as a training and development specialist. His broad-based knowledge of career and technical education coupled with his experience in business and industry will without a doubt be of great benefit to the District’s Apprenticeship Programs.
Stephen will work under the general supervision of Lynne Ornelas, District Dean for Workforce Education and Economic Development, in close working cooperation with San Diego City College and Dean Randy Barnes. Please join me in welcoming Stephen to our ISPT office and to his new position.
Until such time as Stephen joins us in June, the duties of Associate Dean for Apprenticeship will remain under the direction of interim Associate Dean Nancy Helt/ Thereafter, Nancy will continue her work with the ISPT Office handling the ROP and VTEA funded programs in the District’s Workforce Education and Economic Development area.

Distance Ed Continues Rapid Growth at Community Colleges
Community colleges reported an 18 percent increase in distance education enrollments in a 2007 survey released this weekend at the annual meeting of the American Association of Community Colleges, in Philadelphia.
The survey on community colleges and distance education is an annual project of the Instructional Technology Council, an affiliate of the AACC. The survey is based on the responses of 154 community colleges, selected to provide a representational sample of all community colleges. Department Chair in Multimedia and Distance Education Coordinator at Mt. San Jacinto College
will present the Keynote Address, "Putting 'You' in Your Online Class." The Keynote will be
followed by a variety of presentations by online faculty starting at 2 p.m. in the City College Learning Resources Center, R109-R116.
