Integration of Program Review Processes
Project Contact: Dan Gutowski

Miramar College is addressing a recommendation that was made by the Accreditation Commission. The recommendation was to have the instructional and student services Program Review processes integrated with other college procedures that allocate college resources. At the present time, this does not occur.

In order to achieve this goal, it was decided that Miramar College would establish a college-wide effort to review our existing practices and would develop a new, integrated process based on program review from instruction, student services, and college operations. To accomplish this, it was decided that the Orion Consulting Group would be used for two purposes. The first purpose was to have the Orion Group lead a stake holder's workshop where we could examine our existing, isolated practices and see what steps would be necessary to achieve change.

The second purpose of the Orion group was to train Miramar personnel such that we could continue the analysis and planning processes by ourselves. Miramar sent two individuals, Dan Gutowski and Lisa Brewster for a week- long training session in process mapping, a procedure that allows individuals to examine and alter existing processes to meet the needs of all constituents.

For the past two months, Miramar College has continued its efforts to redevelop and integrate its processes with program review. In this regard, the identified committee has been meeting on a weekly basis. These efforts have been led by our newly trained process mapping leaders and are going very well. It is hoped that the recommendations of this committee will be presented at the end of the Fall 2005 semester and will then be piloted in the subsequent semester.
